Most of the ones you can find on the market should work fine if they have USB 2 backwards compatibility.A flash drive will also work, but due to the size of a flash drive, it wont be able to store as many games.
Do not format it as other types such as extFS or WBFS, the latter is an old format of storing Wii games. Wad Manager For Wii 4.3 Update Method AndI tried the online update method and that results in error 32017 (Arent online update disabled now anyway) - So, I found 4.3U wad but not sure in 2019, what is the bestonly way to update to 4.3U. All the info I am finding is from years ago and seems outdated or conflicting. Thanks in advance RESOLVED: I was finally able to get to 4.3U and IOS58 from the help below, mainly using a mix of DOP-Mii, ModMii, and MMM. I truly appreciate this community and I am happy to give more detail to anyone else in similar circumstances. I tried several times and it just hangs before I can even select to install it. Continue this thread level 2 Original Poster 1 point 1 year ago Also, tried downloading the IOS58 WAD and using Yet Another Wad Manager and for some reason I cant choose IOS58 but every other verison. The only real difference in 4.3 wae the addition of IOS58, which allows for USB 2.0 speeds. Update through MMM by going to the System Menu section, press right on the D-Pad until you reach 4.3, then press A. Once you press A, sit back and relax. Make sure your power is stable before doing this, or else your Wii could be fried. Thanks all level 1 2 points 1 year ago Hello I am in the same situation. When I open Nintendont through the HBC I get the same message than you. Can you help me I mean, explain me a little how do you solved your problem using a mix of DOP-Mii, ModMii and MMM. The thing is that I found a way to install HomeBrewChannel in a 4.3E Wii (with Letterbomb by the way), so I decided to update and then reinstall HBC. But, magically, after updating to 4.3E I saw that the HBC wasnt erased. Therefore now I can finally open Nintendont and play MGS: The Twin Snakes and Luigis Mansion level 2 Original Poster 1 point 1 year ago Hi there You can download (maybe not now that Wii store is offline) 4.3E firmware with ModMii and then use DOP-Mii to update offline to 4.3E. I honestly cant remember what I used MMM (Multi Mod Manager) for in those steps but I know between those tools, I was easily able to get from 4.2 to 4.3 Continue this thread level 1 1 point 1 year ago Just stopping in to say thanks for this thread, it helped me fix my nintendont problem. Leaving my solution here in case anyone else googles this issue. My error was launching nintendont resulted in This version of IOS58 is not supported and getting returned to the homebrew menu. My most recent was IOS58 I had system menu version 4.3U, and tried IOS58 installer, but it froze upon opening. I manually updated my ios58 using Multi Mod Manager, and placing the updated IOS58 v6176 (I had v6175) that I got using NUS Manager on the root of an SD card with MMM on it. I followed this guide Then I just used MMMs WAD manager to install the new IOS58, and nintendont ran fine. You are the best EDIT: Wait shit, im still on 4.2. EDIT2: I was able to get on wifi and use the iso58 installer so I got it Continue this thread level 1 1 point 1 year ago Use DOP Mii (WiiBrew Edition) to do it, I have done it You need to use it to first install the correct IOS version that the system menu you are trying to install requires 4.3 requires a certain version of IOS 80, it will tell you which version, so first, go to the IOS installation page and go to IOS 80 and scroll through the versions until you find the one that says its for System Menu 4.3, and install that version Then back out of that menu and go o the System Menu page, and install 4.3U from there Do this before Jan 31 before the NUS servers shutdown, make sure you use DOPMII to install all of the IOS and channels you need from NUS, and make sure you have all of the CIOSs installed on your wii that you need, as finding the legitimate base files required might become much harder later, install D2X as recommended level 2 Original Poster 1 point 1 year ago While I am waiting for response on just using IOS58 Installer, which is just hanging before I can even select install, I started up DOP Mii for kicks and go to the screen where I selected IOS80 and it says: You have AHBPROT available for use. To continue using AHBPROT press A To proceed with your select option instead press B I do have a NAND backup of the console but I dont want to move forward if I should just wait for more options or advice in risk of bricking.
